We Couldn’t Do It Without Volunteers

The group of Volunteers at Turtle Bay Exploration Park is dedicated, hard-working, community-minded, and FUN!  Our Volunteers are diverse and help us out from our Teen Volunteer Program to our Docent Program and they cover no small amount of work.  In 2014, Volunteers provided over 20,800 hours of Volunteer service, which is the equivalent to 10 full-time positions.  Last year, 13,000 children experienced the Park with the guidance of Docents. During 2014 there were over 160 Adult Volunteers and 90 Teen Volunteers who gave their time and energy to support Turtle Bay.

When you think of volunteering at Turtle Bay, you might be surprised by the vast opportunities available: certified divers assist Kyle, our Aquarist, in the Visible River Aquarium exhibit; families of all ages participated during our first annual reception; volunteers greet guests in our Administration building and work alongside our Finance, Development and Marketing departments; our Auction Committee meets for months in advance to make our annual Auction a success; Docents lead Sundial Bridge tours and school groups through the Museum; Teen Volunteers support Animal Care, Education and Horticulture in both Summer and Year-Round Programs; the list goes on and on…

For all that they do, how could we not give back to our Volunteers? Some of the perks of volunteering at Turtle Bay include discounts in our Nursery, Store and Coffee Bar, a Family Membership for Volunteers who regularly serve 8 hours per month, a welcoming community of friendly Volunteers and supportive staff, and an annual Volunteer Recognitions Event.  Plus, we offer monthly Team Turtle Trainings and field trips. Recently our Volunteers had an opportunity to take a field trip to Chico Museums, attend team-building training, and take a behind-the-scenes tour at Shasta Dam.

Our Volunteer Recognitions Event this year is just around the corner and will be held on Tuesday, April 14th.  Volunteers are invited to “Be Our Guest” and will be pampered and appreciated with refreshments, live entertainment provided by Turtle Bay Staff, fun raffle prizes and an awards ceremony to recognize our Volunteers and their accomplishments this past year. Check out the video, below, for a look at a past year’s “entertainment”.
